Данный урок был разработан для использования в 8 классе общеобразовательной школы, но это, разумеется, не означает, что урок не может быть с успехом (при условии незначительных модификаций) использован в других классах и самых различных образовательных учреждениях.
Going on holiday
Этап I. Проверка домашнего задания, актуализация знаний, полученных на прошлом уроке
Методы и формы работы: словесный метод, фронтальная беседа, работа в парах
Типы используемых заданий: работа с текстом (вид чтения: с полным и точным пониманием текста)
В качестве домашней работы на предыдущем уроке учащимся можно раздать распечатку следующего текста:
Travel agent Mr.Dobson was glad to see this old lady again, he smiled and said:
-A holiday abroad? Yes, Mrs. Williams, I think we can arrange something for you.
He knew this woman very well. Many years ago she and her husband went to Scotland every summer and he booked a family hotel for them. Then they bought tours to Belgium, and he arranged their flight tickets. Later, when their children grew up, they began to take holidays in Germany or Switzerland. He found cheap accommodation for them or bought tickets. Last year Mr.Williams died and agent thought: "Well, she will not go abroad anymore. Maybe she will go to Scotland again." But he was wrong! She came to his office and asked for a holiday abroad.
-Do you have any particular place in mind?- he asked.- How about Italy? A nice place, good weather, friendly people....
Mrs.Williams shook her head:
-Actually I want to go to the South African Republic..
South Africa! For Mr.Dobson it came as a great surprise. For a moment he was shocked. "She always had her holidays here in Britain or on the continent, but South Africa... It is so strange". But a minute later he thought: "Of course, a lot of people want to go to Africa these days. It is all these programmes and films on TV, and BBC showed a documentary on the South African Republic only a couple of weeks ago, but at her age.... “
-I am sure we can fix up something for you.- He opened a drawer and took out a brochure to show to Mrs.Williams.
-How about a two week tour that includes air tickets, hotel, meals and some excursions. You will see lots of interesting places.
-Thank you,-said Mrs.Williams.-That is exactly what I do not want.
Mr.Dobson stared at Mrs.Williams across the counter with the look of puzzlement.
-Look, -Mrs.Williams continued- I have a guidebook of Johannesburg here.-And she took a book out of her bag. -It says you can go anywhere by bus. There are many cheap hotels and food is cheap too. All I need is a cheap air ticket. Can you get me one?
Answer the questions, use the key words in the brackets

Tell the group what you think about him. Start this way: ”I think Mr.Dobson is…”
Этап II Работа с лексическим материалом
Методы и формы работы: словесный метод, игровой метод, работа в группах
Типы используемых заданий: соотнести слова и их значение (контроль словарного запаса учащихся), подставить в предложения требующиеся слова, исходя из общего смысла высказывания.
Учащимся предлагается соотнести слова из текста и их значение. Выполнение этого задания возможно на индивидуальных карточках или в виде игры. Во втором случае класс можно разделить на две команды (допустим, по 7 человек каждая). Команда, выполнившая задание первой, выигрывает.

Предложите учащимся ответить на следующие вопросы:
You have read the text. Now answer the question: Mrs.Williams wanted to go the South African Republic. She asked the travel agent for a) a hotel b) a ticket c) a guidebook
Did Mrs.Williams need help of travel agent or she want to arrange her holiday herself?
Mrs.Williams wanted a holiday that was "different". Do you want a different kind of holiday? Where do you want to go? What was the best holiday you have ever had?
Альтернативный вариант выполнения этого задания. Учащиеся делятся на группы по несколько человек. Один ученик задает вопросы, другие отвечают. Учитель может выступать как наблюдатель за работой класса.
Этап III Аудирование
Методы и формы работы: наглядный метод, фронтальная беседа
Типы используемых заданий: аудирование с целью детального понимания текста
Учащимся предлагается прослушать следующий диалог:
-Hello, Sandra. You look wonderful. How was your holiday?
-Everything was great. I went to Italy.
-Where did you stay?
-We… I went with a friend…. stayed at a hotel.
-Was it expensive?
-Not at all.
-How was the food?
-There were a lot of restaurants around. One was very good. The others not.
-How was the weather?
-Wonderful. We spent a lot of time outside.
-did she go alone?
-did she live in an expensive hotel?
-the weather was bad, was not it?
-she did not like the food, did she?

Role play 1: at the travel agency
One of the students is a travel agent, the others explain to him where they want to spend their holidays, what places they want to see, what kind of hotels they want to stay, how much they can pay for it.
The travel agent offers them different tours at different prices. The “tourists” choose the best offer.
Words and phrases to use:
Role play 2: My last holiday
Students act out a dialogue asking each other about their last holiday.

В качестве домашнего задания можно предложить учащимся текст с грамматическим заданием (Ex.1) или написать мини-сочинение (Ex.2)
Ex.1 This is an extract from Mrs.Williams' diary. Complete the sentences, put the verbs into the correct tense form
Yesterday I (to go) to the travel agency, I (to want) to take a holiday in the South African Republic. I (to walk) into Mr.Dobson's office, he (to speak) over the phone. I know him very well. At one time he (to book) a hotel for us in Belgium every year. When we started to spend our holidays in Austria he (to arrange) our tickets.
