Stonehenge is one of the world’s best known monuments of the ancient times, which is situated in Wiltshire in England.
For thousands of years, the circle of ancient stones called Stonehenge has been one of the most mysterious places on Earth. Scientists say Stonehenge has stood in England for at least 4 thousand years. Work on Stonehenge may have started in 3000 before the birth of Christ. Scientists believe it was completed over three periods lasting more than 1,000 years.
Early Britons built Stonehenge from blue stone. Experts believe the builders of Stonehenge knew about design and engineering. These ancient people did not have highly developed tools. But they built a huge monument of heavy stones. They could have used stone tools to shape the stones and wooden rollers, levers and ropes to set them into position. Archaeologists have studied Stonehenge for many years questioning the meaning of the stones. Stonehenge may have been part of a large religious complex or even a place for human sacrifice. The theory also proposes it could be a place to celebrate the change of seasons and honor the dead.
It is a 51 mile long waterway, considered as one of the greatest and remarkable engineering achievements of the 20th century. The canal is joining the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. As long ago as 16 century people had interest in a shorter route from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean because they were interested in trade and commerce relations among various countries. In 1882, the French government tried to build a canal across the Isthmus of Panama however, some circumstances made them step back and discontinue the project. In 1904 the US took over the project from French government and the then US president, Theodore Roosevelt played a crucial role in getting the project completed in the year 1914. But it was difficult task: workers had to blast though stone and use strong machines to move earth.

The Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is a large dam on the Colorado River. It is on the border of the states of Arizona and Nevada. The dam is named after the US President Herbert Hoover, who was president when the idea of building the dam started.
Constructed in the 1930s, the concrete structure was planned to prevent flooding as well as provide much-needed irrigation and electricity to such regions of states like California, Nevada and Arizona. By the time construction of Dam began in 1930, thousands of jobless workers had come to the region, many of whom had lost their jobs during first years of the Great Depression. Explosives and heavy equipment enabled builders to create this huge dam.

The Trans-Siberian Railway
No doubt that the most famous railway in Russia is The Trans-Siberian Railway. It plays a very important role for the country. The Trans-Siberian Railway or Trans-Siberian Railroad is a set of railways that goes from Moscow and European Russia to the Russian Far East provinces, Mongolia, China and the Sea of Japan. In the 1890s, the Russians began building the longest railway in the world to connect Moscow to the Pacific Ocean. One reason for building the "Trans-Sib" was military: to transport troops to the East to protect the country against Japan and China. Another reason was to transport food from the farming areas of south-western Siberia to the people in the European part of Russia. Convict labor from Sakhalin Island and other places and Russian soldiers were drafted into building the railway. The building of the whole Railway took little more than 14 years. Many people say the only way to see Russia is travelling by train. So, if you're going to learn Russia, the best choice will be the trip on the Trans-Siberian Railway because it goes across two continents, 12 regions and 87 cities. From start to finish the journey covers 6,000 miles, that's a third of the way around the Earth!
